Women and hunger puzzles: Insights from a new agrarian household survey
The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) and Surplus People Project (SPP), on behalf of Tshintsha Amakhaya, invite you to the launch of the Comparative Study on the Agrarian Rural Household Economy for 2023. This hybrid event will take place on 6 August 2024 at the HSRC’s offices at the Yacht Club in Cape Town.
At the launch event, we will share the report’s key findings with a specific focus on women-headed households, followed by a plenary session with academics, civil society movements, and study participants.
These are some of the questions answered in the report:
- How has the hunger status of women-headed agrarian households changed since the 2011/12 study?
- How can these changes be explained in the context of cost-of-living increases, climate crises and the Covid-19 pandemic?
- What solutions to hunger have women-headed agrarian households implemented?
- How can the best anti-hunger solutions be sustained?
- What kinds of enduring agrarian inequalities militate against improved livelihoods of women farmworkers and resource-poor small farmers?
